Are you a graduate in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Telecommunication and Information Engineering, or a related field?
Do you aspire to be a professional integrated circuit and microelectronic Design Engineer?
DeKUT’s Master of Science in Electrical & Electronic Engineering- Microelectronic Engineering option is designed for you.
About the programme
Microelectronics and nanoelectronics have been the principal driver in the electronic and telecommunication industry for a very long time. The recent development in the level of integration is critical in the advancement of fields like Medicine, Automation, and Communication. The rapid development in microelectronic technologies in the recent past has led to high demand for engineers with a high level of specialization in this field. In recognition of this need, the School of Engineering of Dedan Kimathi University of Technology has developed a master programme in Microelectronic Engineering offered in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
The goal of the program is to contribute to the training of human resource and development of the semiconductor industry which is a key driver in the manufacturing sector. This is a two-year postgraduate degree programme tailored to train integrated circuits and microelectronic design Engineers. It provides in-depth and broad-based knowledge in microelectronics design from choice and characterization of micro/nano-electronic material, doping and semiconductor material processing, layout designs, and fabrication techniques.
University Partners
The programme will be offered in partnership with the National Institute of Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Computer science, Fluid mechanics& Telecommunications and Networks (INP-ENSEEIHT), a high-ranking School of Engineering of the University of Toulouse in France, and the Semiconductor Technologies Limited (STL), a Kenyan company producing integrated circuits, sensors, and related nanotechnology products for the world market.
Benefits of the program to prospective students
Dedan Kimathi University of Technology is the leading Technological University in the region with modern facilities and a library, in a serene environment conducive for learning and with highly trained and qualified members of staff. This in addition to the partner institution and company will ex-pose the students in the programme to cutting edge design techniques of microelectronic devices as well as facilitate interaction with the leading professionals in the field of microelectronic engineering.
Further, the programme will equip the graduates with the skills necessary to identify and create opportunities in the semiconductor research and development industry and to tap into the locally available resources as raw materials and skills that can be employed to move Kenya, as a country forward as far as semiconductor technologies are concerned.
Graduates of this programme are ideally placed to be specialists in integrated circuit (IC) research and development (R&D), firmware development, microfabrication, material and processes, and test engineering. These are key areas in the 4th industrial revolution and beyond.
Admission requirements
At least a Second Class Honours (Upper Division) or a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.00 on a scale of 4.00 Successful candidates will be sponsored to carry out their work in state-of-the-art semiconductor facilities in DeKUT and in highly specialized chip design labs of partner Universities in France.
